MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID - Mental Health First Aid is an internationally-recognised training programme which has just been launched in the Yorkshire and the Humber Region. It is run by Leeds-based mental health charity Community Links and subsidised by the Big Lottery Fund. MHFA helps people understand different mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and psychosis, and teaches people how to respond to someone who is experiencing mental ill-health. They believe that by educating people about mental ill-health they can reduce some of the stigma and discrimination that surrounds this issue. Having a Mental Health First Aider in your organisation would mean that anyone who needs help is guided towards it quicker. Participants learn a five point action plan which they can use when faced with a person experiencing a mental health problem. MHFA is a two day nationally recognised training course, aimed at all sections of the public including commercial sector workers, voluntary and public sectors, students and communities. Please contact the MHFA team on 0845 8389928. Alternatively, email our administrator - naomi.cordiner@commlinks.co.uk
